Rebuild your credit history by paying off your debt management plan ...

Over the last few years, more than 1 million people have accumulated unmanageable debts. These consumers have had very few opportunities/lenders willing to grant loans to consolidate their unsecured debts and found themselves entering into a debt management plan as a last resort, this to ease the financial burden and prevent aggressive debt collection practices by certain creditors.

The debt management plan provides a great deal of relief and is a valid tool for many, particularly tenants. But in many instances, home owners have found themselves worsening their financial position unnecessarily and basically wiping out their personal credit history, when other consolidation opportunities should have been offered by the debt firms to those with lots of equity in their home.

A recent positive trend via the moneybrain website is applications coming from clients who have been paying into a debt management plan month in month out for several years, who now find themselves in a better financial position and want to rebuild their credit history. For these people, the debt management plan has now served it?s purpose and they want to clear their debts in full and move back up the credit rating food chain.

Until recently lenders would not entertain any applicant who was in a debt management plan. This is completely understandable as the unsecured lenders in most instances where not going to get repaid in full, however we are pleased to report that a number of common sense lenders are now entertaining secured loan applications from those looking to settle their debt management plans, providing they have the income and security in the home to justify it.

As a guide, the applicants would have to have been paying their mortgage on time for at least twelve months, be in full time employment/self employment and be able to afford the loan repayments. All our lenders are extremely responsible and would only grant a loan if it was going to be placing the applicants in a better financial position.

Other points to consider;

  • Minimum Property Valuation ?100,000.
  • The clients mortgage and proposed loan must not exceed 70% of the property value. i.e. If the clients Mortgage is for ?50,000 the maximum loan available to clear the debts could be no more than ?20,000.
  • A valid explanation as to why they entered into a debt management plan in the first place.
  • Been in their current job for a minimum of twelve months.
  • The credit history not worsened since they took out a debt management plan.
  • Their debts had reduced in the debt management plan since it?s inception.
  • Each case is different and will be underwritten by a human being, not a computer.
  • Broker fees and lender fees will be charged, but only on completion and can be added to the loan. No upfront fees would be payable whatsoever, so please be aware as there are a number of rogue traders currently scamming people out of large up-front fees promising loans that applicants are never going to obtain..

Cheesecake Factory Bistro Shrimp Pasta on 'Food Porn' List | FOX8 ...

(CNN) ? Cheesecake Factory bistro shrimp pasta, steak and eggs, maybe a bacon cheddar double cheeseburger.

Sound good?

Those dishes, as prepared by restaurant chains, may look and taste good, but they?re loaded with calories, saturated fat, sodium and sugar ? enough to earn them the dubious distinction of being named Xtreme Eating ?dis-honorees? on this year?s list from the Center for Science in the Public Interest, known as the CSPI.

For the last six years, the CSPI has released Xtreme Eating Awards winners in its Nutrition Action Healthletter.

But ?we think this year that this is the worst of some of the worst,? said Jayne Hurley, CSPI senior nutritionist. ?They top the list for being extremely high in calories, saturated fat and salt or sugar.?

Hurley, who has been analyzing restaurant foods since 1993, went through the menus of more than 200 chain restaurants looking for nutritional information.

The nine finalists for 2013:

Bistro shrimp pasta from The Cheesecake Factory. This dish of crispy battered shrimp, fresh mushrooms and arugula is tossed with spaghettini in a basil-garlic-lemon cream sauce. It weighs in at 3,120 calories, 89 grams of saturated fat and 1,090 milligrams of sodium, according to CSPI, equal to three lasagna classico entrees and a tiramisu from Olive Garden.

Cheesecake Factory?s crispy chicken costoletta was not too far behind. According to the menu, it?s a chicken breast lightly breaded and saut?ed to a crispy golden brown. It is served with a lemon sauce, mashed potatoes and fresh asparagus.

According to CSPI, it also has 2,610 calories, more than a 12-piece bucket of original recipe Kentucky Fried Chicken, and 4? days? worth of saturated fat.

Johnny Rockets bacon cheddar double burger, sweet potato fries and Big Apple shake. This meal packs on 3,500 calories, 88 grams of saturated fat ? that?s four days? worth ? 3,720 milligrams of sodium and 15 teaspoons of sugar, according to CSPI.

Country fried steak and eggs at the International House of Pancakes, or IHOP, has 1,760 calories, 23 grams of saturated fat, 3,720 milligrams of salt and 11 teaspoons ? nearly two days? worth ? of sugar, CSPI said.

The veal porterhouse at Maggiano?s Little Italy has roasted garlic, caramelized onions and lemon with crispy red potatoes. It also has 2,710 calories, 45 grams of saturated fat and 3,700 milligrams of sodium, the CSPI report said.

Maggiano?s chocolate zuccotto cake contains 1,820 calories, 62 grams of saturated fat and 26 teaspoons of sugar, according to CSPI.

Smoothie King?s peanut power plus grape smoothie may sound healthy, but the 40-ounce size has 1,460 calories and 22 teaspoons of sugar.

Chili?s full rack of baby back ribs with Shiner Bock BBQ sauce comes with homestyle fried and cinnamon apples. It also comes, according to the report, with 2,330 calories, 45 grams of saturated fat and 6,490 milligrams of salt.

And finally, Uno Chicago Grill?s deep dish macaroni and three cheese had a day?s worth of calories ? 1,980 ? and more than three days? worth of saturated fat, 71 grams. According to CSPI, it also contains 3,110 milligrams of sodium.

?The most surprising one to me was the smoothie,? Hurley said. ?I think smoothies get this pass that they are better for you than they really are. When you go to Smoothie King looking for a snack and walk out with a 1,500 calorie drink, which is close to a day?s worth of calories in a cup, that?s shocking.

?I think people need to be warned about that. Smoothies have the illusion of being good for you, which I think is why it?s important to warn people that the calories can skyrocket.?

CNN reached out to all restaurants on the list. The Cheesecake Factory did not respond to requests for comment.

IHOP noted its menu does offer healthier choices.

?At IHOP, our menu is all about choice and giving our guests a full range of items to choose from that fits their lifestyle,? spokesman Craig Hoffman said.

?In addition to offering indulgent classic favorites like country fried steak, our menu also features a complete selection of ?Simple & Fit? items, all of which are under 600 calories and include at least one item in every category,? he said. ?These also include our recently introduced ?Simple & Fit? whole wheat waffles, pancakes and crepes as well as our new proprietary blend of Quaker Oatmeal.?

Rick Hendrie, senior vice president of marketing for Uno?s, says the chain is doing its best to make sure people have choices.

?There is no question that particular item is indulgent,? he said. ?But with every single section on the menu, we have items that are also nutritious and delicious, so that you always have a choice.

?We?ve really worked hard to make sure that choice is everywhere,? he said. ?In addition, every single one of our restaurants has a nutrition kiosk which is in the lobby, and all the information about our items, every single one, all the nutritional information about allergens, is available and transparent.?

Several restaurants questioned the numbers, telling CNN they had different totals.

?The results included in the CSPI study were significantly higher than our findings,? said Maureen Locus, spokeswoman for Brinker International, the parent company of Chili?s and Maggiano?s.

?While menu item ingredient information is based on standardized product recipes, variations in nutritional content may occur due to in-restaurant preparation, portion size variances and guest customization of menu items, among other factors.?

CSPI says it got the nutritional information from company websites.

?Customers choose to dine out for many occasions ? whether it?s a lunch outside the office or a special occasion, such as a birthday dinner,? said Joy Dubost, director of nutrition and healthy living for the National Restaurant Association, in a statement.

?With this in mind, restaurants provide an array of menu options including a growing selection of healthful menu options. In fact, the National Restaurant Association?s 2013 Restaurant Industry Forecast shows that over 85% of adults say there are more healthy options at restaurants than there were two years ago.?

The average adult should consume about 2,000 calories a day, according to the Food and Drug Administration. The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention recommends keeping sodium intake between 2,300 to 1,500 milligrams per day for most people, preferably at the lower end of that scale.

Chain restaurant menus will soon be required to post calorie counts on their menus. FDA spokeswoman Shelly Burgess said the agency is in the process of finalizing regulations for nutrition labeling requirements, but don?t have an estimated date for when the final regulations will be issued. The National Restaurant Association advocated for the move, Dubost said.

Hurley?s advice in the meantime? ?When you?re dining out, skip the appetizers and dessert. You?re better off just passing them by ? and as far as your entree goes, either split it with somebody or pack up half and take it for lunch tomorrow.?

What I Learned About The PR Business From Dan Edelman

When I heard the news that Dan Edelman, founder of the eponymous public relations firm, had passed away at 92, I was stunned. Then I asked myself why. After all, 92 isn?t young, and I?d heard from former associates that Dan had been in poor health. Sad, yes, but why was it so shocking?

If you knew Dan, you understand. He was such a colorful and vigorous character, and so dominant during the time I worked at Edelman New York,? that I suppose I thought he?d live forever. And in a way, he will. His legacy is huge.

I was at Edelman for five years in the nineties ? more than a pit stop, maybe, but less than a career. Make no mistake, I had my difficulties with Dan, and no doubt things have changed enormously since that slice of time in the agency?s history. But I was proud to have worked there and became a better practitioner and a far better business development person for the experience. I learned a lot from Dan Edelman, both directly and through his son Richard. And at least one lesson has stayed with me all these years.

Hire smart people.

During one of Dan?s New York visits he gathered us in the conference room and exhorted us to ?hire smart people.? He said it just like that. In fact, he shouted it like a football coach at halftime until the colleague standing next to me in the packed room rolled his eyes and murmured sardonically, ?Good thing he didn?t see the ?Dummies Wanted? ad.?? I giggled, but as an example, Dan mentioned a recent D.C. office hire, a rising young public affairs star named named Leslie Dach. ?He?s so bright we didn?t know what to do with him,? explained Dan. ?But we knew we had to hire him and figure it out.? That was a classic Edelman move that I saw repeated over and over. Hire smart people.

It seems basic, but talent is not just the most important thing in a creative service business, it?s the only thing. And what Dan was really saying that day was this: Take a risk. don?t be afraid to bring in someone who?s smarter, better, more talented, or more aggressive than you. In fact, make that your mission.

I?ve reflected on the ?hire smart people? mantra quite a bit since then, and it?s not as self-evident as it seems. In fact, in those nearly 20 years, I?ve worked and partnered with some truly excellent and talented PR professionals and savvy managers who couldn?t quite bring themselves to follow Dan?s advice. Either they didn?t try hard enough, or they felt threatened, or they thought they couldn?t afford it, or they simply wouldn?t risk it.

But it pays to have high standards and to push the boundaries of your comfort zone. Recruiting is only one example, but it?s a big one. Rather than hiring to fill a box in an org chart, Dan and Richard would often seek out the best and the brightest and shape a role for them. It didn?t always work out, but when it did, it was spectacular.

And risk-taking has its own rewards. In an industry of client-pleasers and behind-the-scenes types, Richard Edelman was one of a handful of CEOs who believed fervently that the greatest threat to business was the status quo. Like Dan, he pushed relentlessly to open ever more offices, establish up-and-coming practice areas, expand at breakneck speed, and basically shake things up to avoid stagnation or complacency. It was tough, but the results speak for themselves.

And after you hire those people, you need to make your expectations known. During my time at Edelman, it was clear that Dan and Richard valued the business growth driven by new client wins above all else. This is not to say that they didn?t value client service, and it doesn?t mean that other agencies weren?t driven to win business, because of course they did, and all agencies are. But there was a heightened expectation for business development and the kind of client home runs that make a reputation. It was articulated not just in words, but by example. I learned that you simply can?t focus on everything, so you have to focus on the most important thing.

It?s that simple. And that difficult. Hire smart people. Thanks, Dan.

Chiefs player legally drunk when he killed girlfriend: autopsy

KANSAS CITY, Missouri (Reuters) - Kansas City Chiefs linebacker Jovan Belcher was legally drunk when he killed his girlfriend Kasandra Perkins and then took his own life last month, according to an autopsy released on Monday.

The report showed Belcher had a blood alcohol content of .17 - more than double the .08 level that by Missouri law makes a driver drunk.

Belcher, 25, killed Perkins, 22, in the bedroom of their home during an argument on the morning of December 1. He then drove to Arrowhead stadium, where the Chiefs play, and shot himself in the head.

The autopsy by the Jackson County Medical Examiner found that Belcher shot Perkins nine times, inflicting wounds to her neck, chest, stomach, legs and hands. She had negligible blood alcohol content, the autopsy showed.

Head coach Romeo Crennell and General Manager Scott Piolo, who have since left the Chiefs, tried to talk Belcher out of shooting himself. But he put a handgun to his temple and pulled the trigger. He was pronounced dead shortly after reaching the hospital.

Belcher and Perkins, parents of a three-month-old girl, had a stormy relationship, according to a recent police report.

Belcher had been visiting another girlfriend the night before the shooting, witnesses told police.

Police questioned Belcher about five hours before the shooting when he was spotted sleeping in his Bentley automobile on a street near the second girlfriend's apartment.

A video shows officers questioning Belcher outside his car. But he showed no outward sign of being drunk and was not given a blood alcohol test.

Belcher assured officers he was not getting back in the car and instead went into the apartment building after calling one of its occupants, according to police records.

He asked to be awakened at 6:45 a.m. so he could go to a team practice, police reports said.

Explosions at Syria's Aleppo university kills 15: group

BEIRUT | Tue Jan 15, 2013 12:31pm EST

BEIRUT (Reuters) - At least 52 people were killed and dozens wounded on Tuesday in two explosions that rocked the university in Aleppo, Syria's biggest city, the Syrian Observatory for Human Rights said.

Two explosions hit the university during the day while students were sitting exams. The cause of the explosions was not clear but the government and opposition activists blamed each other.

The Observatory said in a statement that its death toll was based on reports from doctors and students.
