It?s a scene out of ?The Wizard of Oz? where Dorothy is ready to go back to Kansas and be home with her family. All she has to do is click the heels of her ruby red shoes and say, ?there?s no place like home? and away she goes. We can only wish it was that easy for children who have been abused or neglected and are trapped in the foster system to find a safe, loving home!
Court Appointed Special Advocates, or CASA, was established back in 1977 to help advocate for the best interests of children trapped in the legal system. Since 1977, CASA has grown into over 950 programs that recruit, train and
support volunteers to advocate for the best interests of children who have been abused and/ or neglected and are in the legal and social system. One very important distinction is that CASA programs are not federal, state or locally funded departments or organizations. Rather, they are independent, local non-profit organizations working to help create better outcomes for local children and communities and they rely solely on donations and fundraising.
Fast forward to CASA of Davidson County?s 2012 Red Shoe Party. Each year during April, national child abuse prevention month, CASA of Davidson County comes together and hosts it?s annual fundraiser, The Red Shoe Party. Calling upon the image from The Wizard of Oz, the Red Shoe Party raises over 20% of CASA?s operating funds to help the over 2,000 children in Davidson County that are trapped in the court system because they are abused, neglected or abandoned.
This year?s event will be held in the Pinnacle building downtown on April 21 from 7:00pm to 11:00pm. Cocktail attire, red shoes, dancing, dinner, a silent auction and more are in store for attendees. Some of the great silent auction items for the event includes:
