The East Devon Golf club is delighted to have amongst its number a group described as The Golden Girls, writes Shirley Pressey.
The Ladies may well be now in a state of advanced years and therefore, sadly, in most cases, unable to play 18 holes, but they are certainly far too young to hang up their golf shoes.
The group continue to enjoy their golf and regularly take part in what are special ladies? competitions.
Otherwise known as The Restricted Ladies, this merry group play their nine-hole competitions at the end of the field on a Tuesday ? normally just prior to 1pm.
They have their own nine-hole competition cards and the stroke index has been calculated so they can maintain a handicap and play in qualifying competitions.
On the recent Ladies Captain?s Day, twelve of the group, who number 20 in total, played a three ball team event.
The winners on the day were Maria Onley, Jean Halton and Jane Baker.
It is encouraging to know that golf can be enjoyed at any age and East Devon have a thriving junior section as well as our much loved Restricted Ladies ? restricted only in the number of holes they can play, but not in ability and experience.
They are a valued group of our ladies section.
