WASHINGTON (AP) ? Mitt Romney says the monthly jobs report released Friday is "devastating news" for workers and their families.
U.S. employers added 69,000 jobs in May, the fewest in a year.
The unemployment rate also rose slightly to 8.2 percent, up from 8.1 percent in April.
In a statement, the presumed Republican presidential nominee called the report "dismal" and a harsh indictment of President Barack Obama's policies. Romney said the economy seems to be moving backward although Obama says his campaign is about moving forward.
Romney has said he will cut taxes and spending, and eliminate government regulation to help create jobs.
In an interview taped Thursday and broadcast Friday by CBS News, Romney gave the president the grade of "F, across the board" for his handling of the economy.
