However, if you don?t follow Whitecourt?s Animal Control and Care Bylaws, your furry friends will become pests in your neighbourhood.

Nobody likes a dog that won?t stop barking.? It is your responsibility to ensure your dog is trained not to bark incessantly at importune times.? If your neighbours report you for a barking and howling dog, you can face a $50.00 fine.

Even if your dog is tame and gentle, you cannot let it run unattended around Whitecourt.? Dogcatchers in Whitecourt have every right to seize your dog if it is found wandering off your property.? Dogs are kept in the pound for three working days only, so if your canine friend goes missing, be sure to check the pound sooner than later if you want your dog back.

Dogs are not the only animals that can be impounded.? Wandering cats are seized as well.? You will be charged if your cat or dog is impounded.? Fees are as follows and are for each 24 month period.

• First Offence ? $75.00
• Second Offence ? $125.00
• Third Offence ? $200.00
• Offences Thereafter ? $250.00
• Costs of $4.00/working day for feeding and care

Do not forget to license, spay and neuter your cats and dogs as required. Clean up after your dogs when walking them outside. ?Treat your pets with kindness.? Animal abuse in Whitecourt is never tolerated and the abuser is subject to a $50 fine.
